Lavender Hot Chocolate
This lavender hot chocolate is the most relaxing cup of hot chocolate you will ever drink. The floral hint of lavender pairs beautifully with rich, dark chocolate in a way that's unexpected but completely addictive.
I first made this on a rainy Sunday afternoon and it instantly became a household favorite. It's perfect for winding down after a long day—like a warm hug in a mug.
Ingredients
- 2 cups whole milk (or milk of choice)
- 1/3 cup dark chocolate chips (70% or higher)
- 1 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1-2 tablespoons honey or maple syrup
- 1/4 teaspoon dried culinary lavender flowers
- 1 drop food-grade lavender essential oil (optional, for extra flavor)
- Pinch of salt
- Whipped cream for topping
Instructions
- In a small saucepan, heat the milk over medium-low heat until it starts to steam but not boil.
- Add the dried lavender flowers and let steep for 5 minutes.
- Strain the milk through a fine mesh sieve to remove the lavender flowers.
- Return the milk to the saucepan and add the chocolate chips, cocoa powder, honey, and salt.
- Whisk gently over low heat until the chocolate is completely melted and the mixture is smooth.
- If using lavender essential oil, add 1 drop and stir.
- Pour into mugs and top with whipped cream and a sprinkle of dried lavender.
Tips
Using dried culinary lavender flowers gives the hot chocolate a subtle, natural floral flavor. The essential oil adds an extra layer if you want a stronger lavender presence—just be careful not to add too much, as it can become soapy. Use high-quality dark chocolate for the best flavor. This hot chocolate is rich enough that a small cup is satisfying. It's perfect for a cozy evening or as a unique dessert drink at a dinner party.
