This Homemade Lavender Essential Oils Body Lotion is perfect after a stressful day at work, or smoothing on baby to help relax them and maybe sleep better! Lavender is known for its relaxing properties, and it's especially popular in bath and body products. But why spend a small fortune at the store when you can just make your own?

Ingredients

  • 1 cup aloe vera gel
  • 1 1/2 oz vegetable based emulsifying wax (2 Tbsp)
  • 1/2 cup almond oil
  • 1 Tbsp shea butter
  • 15 to 20 drops lavender essential oil
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Using a double boiler on low heat, combine the wax, shea butter, and almond oil. Stir until melted.
  2. Let it cool until it's soft, but do not allow it to completely harden.
  3. In a separate bowl, mix the aloe vera gel, vanilla and lavender essential oil and set aside.
  4. Add aloe mixture to the softened oil and wax and use a blender to whip.
  5. Use a small canning jar or an old lotion container. Makes about 12 ounces.

Tips

The emulsifying wax is what binds the oil and water components together to create a smooth lotion. If you can't find emulsifying wax, you can substitute with beeswax, though the texture may be slightly different. The aloe vera gel adds a lightweight, non-greasy feel to the lotion. Apply after a warm shower when your pores are open for best absorption. This lotion keeps for about 2-3 months at room temperature.
